With so much speculation regarding the Mayan calendar and its doomsday predictions, it's important to understand what we know for certain at this point. The fact is that the Mayan calendar does exist and does count down to zero in 2012. This is extremely interesting as is the history of the Mayan people. The calendar's end is based on astronomical data and using modern science we know it is accurate. What we don't know is just how this will affect the planet earth. Just a miniscule shift in the earth's axis could cause unpresedented weather events or irreversible climate change. Will this be serious or incidental? We will not know until such tome arrives, no matter what the latest cable tv special airs, or the latest magazine article predicts. With recent catastrophic events in Thailand and Japan where loss of life has been substantial and heartbreaking, weather and earth events are shown to easily rival the human caused catasprophes and mass murder of war. Regardless of the Mayan calendar and regardless of the year 2012, It has never been more important to understand how to care for yourself and your family in the event of a natural or synthetic disaster.
