Number three on the list of survival necessities is water for hygiene. Discomfort sets in quickly when a human being doen't have the capability to maintain good hygiene. Once you've secured a supply of drinking water and food, a water supply to maintain hygiene is an absolute necessity. This is especially true when multiple survivors are confined to close quarters.

In a catastrophic situation, we cannot reply on public city water to flow from our faucets to wash our hands and brush our teeth. We also cannot rely on a well pump to function for very long with electricity. Therefore our recommendation is as simple as our recommendation for drinking water.

A hand operated water filtration system would be a small investment to ensure you and your family can filter enough water to ensure a certain level of hygiene in the event of an long-term emergency. Storing bottled water in your home is also an inexpensive way to maintain a short term supply of water at a very low cost. This is always recommended however most people would never want to use the last jug of clean water to wash their face or hands. A hand operated filter pump requires no electricity and it is easily used and maintained.
